Complete Dentures: What to Expect

Full dentures replace all teeth in an arch and rest on the gum ridges. Upper dentures typically achieve excellent suction-based retention. Lower dentures have less natural retention because the tongue and jaw muscles occupy much of the space, which is why lower dentures more frequently benefit from implant support.

At Huntington Beach Prosthodontics, full dentures are designed with careful attention to vertical dimension of occlusion (the space between your jaws when teeth are together) — one of the most commonly under-addressed aspects of conventional denture work. Proper vertical dimension supports natural facial contours, prevents the "sunken" look associated with ill-fitting dentures, and creates the bite stability that comfortable chewing requires.

For patients seeking better retention than conventional dentures provide, implant-supported snap-on dentures use 2–4 implants to anchor the denture securely throughout the day. For the most stable fixed solution, All-on-4 provides a non-removable prosthesis permanently attached to implants. See our denture overview for the full picture of options.
